John Manville's complete line of spray polyurethane foam (SPF) insulation solutions provides superior thermal energy efficiency, as well as advanced air and sound control. SPF insulation completely covers gaps and voids, works in hard-to-insulate areas and can exceed the performance of traditional fiberglass insulation. Both Johns Manville SPF product categories, open-cell and closed cell, deliver high yield, superior performance and exceptional sprayability.
The AttiCat system involves using a machine to blow loose-fill fiberglass insulation into a space. The insulation is blown in at a high velocity, causing it to expand and fill in any gaps or spaces where heat loss can occur. This creates a more complete and effective thermal barrier than other types of insulation, such as batt or roll insulation for hard-to-reach areas.
If your home is 10–15 years old, there’s a good chance it’s not as well insulated as it should be. Not having enough insulation results in major energy loss, and whether you realize it or not, your home is constantly leaking energy— especially out of the attic.
Since energy costs are only continuing to rise, it’s a smart idea to protect your home against these rising expenses. A well-insulated home can significantly reduce the cost of utility bills throughout the year. We want to help you save money, not throw it away.
That’s why Frost Heating & Air install insulation using the Owens Corning® AttiCat® Expanding Blown-in Insulation System. It’s one of the fastest, easiest and most affordable ways to save on energy.
When blown, the glass fibers create an effectively distributed network of thermal reservoirs to resist heat transfer and achieve industry-standard thermal requirements with less glass material.
If your insulation is wet or damaged, we strongly recommend replacing it before applying a new layer. Otherwise, the problem will spread throughout the new insulation and could significantly damage roofing structures. If the insulation is in good condition, then a new layer can be placed on top without difficulty.
Looking across your attic, if the insulation is level with or below the attic floor joists, you probably need to add more insulation. If you cannot see any of the floor joists because the insulation is well above them, you probably have enough, and adding more insulation may not be cost-effective.
One popular option for attic spaces is unfaced insulation. This type of insulation features no external vapor barrier, allowing it to breathe freely and avoid trapping condensation buildup within the attic. It is also typically less expensive than faced insulation, making it a good choice for homeowners on a budget.
